Penumbra OST available in nearly twenty MP3 stores

Download version of the Penumbra OST album will be soon available in nearly twenty MP3 stores (some stores are selling it already). Unfortunately the album will not include the booklet (due to fact most stores can't include it in the album), but if you have bought the album and you have a receipt of it, you can ask the booklet from us (send email to contact@thesoundoffiction.com)!

Dark Penumbra Soundtrack Released to Critical Acclaim

Mikkeli, Finland - January 8th 2010 - The Sound of Fiction record label today released a special edition of the Penumbra Soundtrack. The Penumbra series, developed by Frictional Games, has achieved cult status, and Mikko Tarmia’s essential soundscape has been consistently lauded as one of the series’ greatest achievements.

For the first time all in one place the album delivers over one hour and 27 tracks of remastered music from all three games, in addition to exclusive and previously unreleased material. Series narrative designer, Tom Jubert, returns to provide an exclusive text and further insight into Penumbra’s twisted tale. The series’ dark, signature theme tunes and ambient soundscapes make this an essential purchase for any VGM or horror aficionado, not to mention the serious Penumbra fan.

About the Overture theme arrangement

The original arrangement for Overture theme was composed in D# minor, meaning it's a bit nasty to read with all those accidentals - so I decided to transpose the arrangement into D minor.

It's a quite simple arrangement as I didn't want it to be too difficult to play, so there's not much challenge for advanced concert pianists. Use sustain pedal expressively, especially in the middle part (bars 21-36), sustaining the low registry while playing the upper parts with left hand. Otherwise it sounds a bit empty.

Penumbra’s acclaimed original soundtrack to see full release

Penumbra soundtrack coming up!

We are working on Penumbra OST: Special Edition, which is aimed to be released at Q3 2009. Both CD and download versions will be available. The soundtrack will include many remastered versions of the tracks from the game series as well as some unreleased tracks and a Penumbra suite. The booklet will hold something interesting...it's a secret...

Now, it's still possible to affect into soundtrack's content. What do you say, should it contain more dark ambient tracks or should it have more melodic stuff, or both (50/50)?

Are there any specific tracks from the game you wish to be included in the album?

AIKA Lifts Off - The narrative / soundtrack project from two of the team behind Penumbra is released today

Virrat, Finland - November 14th 2008 - The Sound of Fiction record label today announced the release of AIKA, its first startling project - an orchestral soundtrack, narrative and graphics project, produced by a team of established video game talents.

AIKA encompasses a philosophically inspired science fiction story penned by Tom Jubert, with scenes described by the moody soundtrack composed by a series of acclaimed musicians, and lush illustration. Jubert, as well as Director and Lead Composer, Mikko Tarmia, are both known for their involvement in the Penumbra series of horror adventure games.

The story follows a group of Russian Cosmonauts who form an insignificant element of the ongoing Russian movement - to discover a habitable planet in the year 2727. When the defenceless science team is sent aboard the abandoned capital ship, AIKA, a horrific discovery drives them close to madness ? the only alternative will force them to reassess their very existence.

"AIKA is The Sound of Fiction's first official release, and we couldn't be prouder of the prestigious team that's put this unique project together," said Project Lead Mikko Tarmia. "With proven composers, writers and illustrators from the film and video game industries I feel AIKA represents a truly rare piece of entertainment.

Virrat, Finland – September 5th 2008 – The Sound of Fiction, a new independent record label from award winning video game composer Mikko Tarmia, today announced ‘AIKA’, an atmospheric orchestral soundtrack, narrative and graphics project.

AIKA encompasses a philosophically inspired science fiction story penned by Tom Jubert. “We’re incredibly lucky to have signed some major talent to the project,” confided Tarmia, “We have both film and game composers, including Paul Houseman, Michael Law and Shadowgrounds’ Ari Pulkkinen.” Lavish illustrations will accompany the music and story, courtesy of Tuija Fagerlund.
